October 30th, 2008 in projects

Materials:
Old piece
of trim board
Vintage
electric wall sconce
Saw tooth
hanger
Candle
Ribbon
and tag
Screws
Instant glue or double sided tape
Tool List:
Saw
Drill
Sandpaper
or palm sander
Paint
Wax or
wood finish- optional
Candle
Stick-UmTM
Method:
Step 1. Cut
trim board to accommodate size of sconce and label. Ours is 14in. by 5in.
Step 2. Determine
location of sconce on trim board and drill a hole equal to the size of the wiring on the back of
the sconce.

Tip: Our wiring had already been
removed. If yours is not, simply cut away any old wiring with a snipper. |
Step 3. Sand any loose paint chips from trim board and sconce.
![]() |
Be sure to wear a mask to protect from any lead paint dust that might be kicked up from the sanding. |
Step 4. Paint board and sconce with your favorite shade and let dry.

This project is one for the "Make it Pink" challenge. So I chose a lovey shade of ballet slipper pink. |
Step 5. Attach saw tooth hanger to back of trim board with a hammer.
![]() |
Saw tooth hangers are one of my favorite ways to hang as they are so forgiving. |
Step 6. Push sconce into front of trim board and secure with screws.
![]() |
The sconce would probably stay put just by inserting it into the previously drilled hole, but better safe than sorry. |
Step 7. Create tag and glue or tape it on the trim board above the sconce.
Step 8. Dip end of candle in Stick-UmTM and place in old light socket on sconce.

If you haven't tried this product I highly reccommend it. Besides, it has a very funky label. |
Step 9. Hang candelabra and light a candle of hope for a cure.
![]() |
Simple and elegant as is or add a glass shade if you prefer. |
![]() |
You could easily add an easel back and use it on a dresser or desk too. |
After you make it, show it off to other members in the Member Junk area.
